Reports
Using Reports
The Reports page holds the dashboards and charts configured for your project, so you can see your data visually, filter it, and open the records behind a chart.
Where to Find It
Reports is in the left navigation. The dashboards you see there, and the charts on each one, are set by your project configuration and your access permissions. Two projects will not necessarily show the same dashboards, and another user in your project may see a different set than you do.
Opening a Dashboard
- Click Reports in the left navigation.
- The Reports page or your default dashboard opens, depending on your project's configuration.
- If your default dashboard opens, click Reports at the top of the dashboard to return to the Reports page and see every dashboard available to you.
- Select the dashboard you want.
Some projects show a drop-down list of dashboards instead on your default dashboard page. If you do not see everything you expect in the drop-down, return to the Reports page for the full set.
Reading a Dashboard
A dashboard is a set of charts, each answering one question about your records. Depending on how your project is configured, charts may cover topics over time, records by source, records by stakeholder or stakeholder type, record labels, geography, sentiment, or assets.
Note: An individual chart can be pre-filtered when it is configured, so it may not cover the same records as the chart next to it. If a number looks inconsistent across two charts, this is usually why.
Filtering
- At the top of the dashboard, set the filters you want, such as date range, source, topic, or stakeholder attributes.
- The charts on the dashboard update to match.
Filter options and wording vary between dashboards. A date filter on one dashboard may offer preset periods, while another offers a start and end date. The effect is the same.
Drilling into a Chart
A chart segment is a doorway to the records behind it.
- Click the segment of the chart you want to inspect, such as one bar, one slice, or one point.
- The Records sidebar opens beside the chart, showing the individual records that make up that segment.
- Read the records in the sidebar without leaving the dashboard.
To act on records:
- Select records using the checkbox on each record, or click Select All for the full set.
- Choose an action:
- Export to .xlsx or .csv
- Add to a Collection
- Add to an Insight
- Add a Label
Getting More Out of a Dashboard
- Set your filters before you drill down. The Records sidebar reflects the filters currently applied, so filtering first gives you a smaller and more relevant set to review.
- Drill into the outlier, not the total. The tallest bar usually confirms what you already know. The unexpected one is where the reading time pays off.
- Use a dashboard to find records, then use a Collection to work with them. Dashboards are for spotting patterns. Collections are where you curate and build toward an Insight.
- Export when you need the underlying records outside the platform, and use a Collection when the work continues inside it.
What to Expect
- Charts reflect the filters applied at that moment. Confirm which filters are on before you quote a number.
- Dashboards and their charts are configured per project, so guidance from a colleague in a different project may not match what you see.
- Charts are periodically updated in appearance. If one looks different than it did before, the underlying data and its meaning are unchanged.
